Republic of Ireland - Pt 2

Next we stopped at Killarney. The main attraction of this area is a 190 km scenic drive around the Iveragh Peninsula, known as the Ring of Kerry. We started the drive in Killarney National Park, with three beautiful lakes and a stately home, the Victorian era Muckross House and gardens.

A horse-drawn "jaunting car" ride is a must-do activity in the area. We took a ride at Muckross House, to the Torc Waterfall and Muckross Lake - see pics below.

Unfortunately the weather got progressively worse as the day went on. By the time we arrived at the Atlantic coast, thick white mist (common in this area) obscured the view. The following day (in good sunshine) we completed the Ring of Kerry drive with a visit to Ross Castle, on the edge of Lough (ie Lake) Leane.

In the town of Killarney we had dinner at the Crock O' Gold Traditional Pub, complete with traditional Irish entertainment.

The following pic shows the shops along Main Street, Killarney.

More of Ireland in the next post.
