Germany - Pt 3

For one of Debbie´s concerts, we had to drive an hour or so south of Nuremberg to the town of Weissenburg. On the way we visited the town of Ansbach. The main square was quite busy with the Saturday market taking place. See the pic below with St Gumbertus Church in the background.

Dogs are often taken into cafes and restaurants in Europe. We do not know what the dogs think of such outings. See example in the pic below.

Ansbach has a palace (covered in scaffolding at the time) and a lovely Hofgarten (garden) with its Orangerie (originally used for growing warm climate fruits).

Weissenburg is a nice little walled town with picturesque buildings. Below is Ellinger Tor (one of the town gates) and the "Blue House".

There is water around part of the wall, probably part of an original moat. The pic shows the Seeweiher and wall.

The classical concert in Weissenburg took place in the Bergwaldtheater, outdoors in a forest, on a hill above the town. (Germans love outdoor concerts.) The pics show a view of the Bergwaldtheater and Debbie playing her horn there.

We spent an afternoon with Debbie in the medieval city of Rotherburg on Germany´s Romantic Road. Gail loves this place - we have now visited three times. Gothic churches and gabled, half-timbered houses are surrounded by the city walls. Attractive gates lead into the city, like the Burgtor below.

The Town Hall has a surviving Gothic section with tower and a later Renaissance addition with Baroque arcades. We climbed the very steep steps to the top of the tower, which is quite narrow at the top. Below are pics of the Town Hall and a view over the rooftops from the top of the tower.

The following pics show Debbie and Gail in one of Rotherburg´s picturesque streets and an example of the attractive metal signs which hang out from many buildings.

Next update covers more German villages.
